Our Learners

Over twenty-two hundred adult learners have come to our program since its formation over twenty years ago. Learners are male, female, young, middle-aged or seniors.

They may come because they need the skills to begin their working career, or as retirees who feel they now have the time to learn skills they lack. They might want to brush up on skills for a test (like a driver's licence). Some would like help with math or reading to get a better job or help their kids with homework. They may be injured or laid-off workers who want to improve skill levels in order to qualify for, or be successful in retraining programs. They may need basic computer training to maintain employment, conduct on-line business, or communicate through e-mail with friends and family.

Our learners' experiences, and backgrounds are as varied as the reasons why they lack these skills. What they share is a common goal to improve their skills, and the courage to seek assistance in achieving that goal.

Drs. Buck and Olga Rogers Bursary Award

In 2008, the Thunder Bay Literacy Group received a donation from Dr. Olga Rogers. From that donation came the Drs. Buck and Olga Rogers Bursary Fund. Each year this $500 bursary is presented to one adult learner who is working hard towards their goals in our program. If you would like to make a donation, our information can be found here:   Want To Help?
