Our History

The Thunder Bay Literacy Group, formed in 1983, is a non-profit community-based organization which is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. Initially volunteer tutors were recruited to work one-to-one with adults who wanted to improve or develop basic literacy skills. After twelve years, our services expanded to include small group literacy and numeracy classes. In the fall of 2004 we opened the Adult Learning Centre and now offer full-time as well as part-time classes and have added basic computer courses to our curriculum.

Our Mission Statement

The Thunder Bay Literacy Group is a community-based adult learning organization. We welcome and support adults in Thunder Bay who wish to improve their basic reading, writing, math and computer skills. In addition, the Thunder Bay Literacy Group raises awareness about adult literacy issues.
